What can different statistics tell us about coronavirus in Wales so far?

We seem to be bombarded with different measures, but what do they mean and how does Wales compare with other parts of the UK?

Here, we try to answer some of the questions and explain what the different measures are and also give some of the most recent figures.

Where in Wales are the most cases?
Case rates can tell us how many people with Covid-19 symptoms are presenting themselves for tests and which then come back positive.

These compare different parts of Wales and sizes of populations - and 15 council areas hit their highest figures yet on Monday.

Nine of the 22 council areas now have case rates of 500 cases per 100,000, among the highest levels in the UK.

As we can see from the map, only the north west corner of Wales has Covid case rates at comparatively low levels.

Merthyr Tydfil was the hardest-hit area for case rates in the UK at the end of October and it has passed that peak level.

After an improvement it has jumped to 870.3 cases per 100,000 people, the highest in Wales again, while its positivity rate remains the highest - nearly 30%.

There is a mass-testing programme in the area, with positive tests around 1.5% so far.

All parts of south Wales are on an upwards trajectory.

Blaenau Gwent continues to rise and, at 641.3 cases per 100,000 people, has hit its highest rate so far.

Rhondda Cynon Taf (RCT) now has a case rate of more than 650 per 100,000 and rising, reporting more than 1,500 new positive tests in the past week.

Areas like Ferndale and Maerdy, and Tonypandy and Clydach Vale are among hotspots.

It has been overtaken by Newport, with its case rate increasing rapidly and beyond 678 - its highest yet.

Torfaen has risen to 556.6 cases per 100,000 in the past week, although its positivity rate is now below 20%.

Cardiff's case rate is still rising and is close to 500 cases per 100,000.

Meanwhile, council chiefs in Monmouthshire have warned that local case rates in Magor, Undy, Rogiet and Caldicot were "far too high," blaming the situation on community
transmission. The county has also passed 343 cases per 100,000.
